An Interview With calsvinyl

In this interview I talk to Cal all about music and vinyl.

Why did you decide to start a vinyl themed Instagram?

I decided to start my vinyl account to help meet and interact with like-minded people who enjoy music and especially vinyl. At the time I didn’t realise how great the vinyl community is on Instagram and I’m glad I started this account! Also, I think like most collectors I secretly want to show off my collection.

How long have you been collecting records and how many do you have in your collection?

I started listening/collecting vinyl records about 4 years ago and after years of collecting cd’s I wanted to start collecting vinyl as well. I’ve always liked having a ‘physical music collection’ and vinyl records was something I wanted to try. I wanted to know what the sound was like and if there is a difference to cd’s and downloads. It’s fair to say l liked it and the vinyl collection has been growing ever since.

I have over 400+ vinyl’s but I’m not sure of the exact total. Recently I have been adding my collection to discogs which I’m finding a useful way of knowing what records I have!

What’s your vinyl holy grail?

For me it’s a 7″ single by the Arctic Monkeys called R u mine? It’s coloured purple and was released as part of the record store day 2012! The song was part of my soundtrack for that summer back when I was a first year apprentice and driving my first car! Good times.

Who’s your top five of favourite bands?

Arctic Monkeys, Kaiser Chiefs, The Killers, Oasis and The Stereophonics.

If you could have dinner with any musician from any time who would it be and why?

David Bowie because I think he was one of the best musician’s the UK has ever produced! His voice, his ability to re-invent himself were brilliant and I would love to be in his company! legend!

Any recommendations on movies, tv shows or music?

Movies: The Gentleman – a Guy Ritchie movie that I’ve recently watched and thought was good! Hugh Grant and Colin Farrell are great in this movie! Jojo Rabbit, it’s soo funny and a must watch. TV shows: I’ve recently been watching a series on apple tv called ‘long way up’ with Ewan McGregor and Charlie Boorman. The lads travel from Ushuaia in the south of Argentina to Los Angeles on the electric Harley Davidson motorbikes! You don’t have to be a big fan of motorbikes to enjoy this series. Music: here are a few artists/bands that I’ve been enjoying recently:Tom Grennan, Jade Bird, Sea Girls, Blossoms, The Jaded hearts club, Courteeners and of course Arctic Monkeys (the live album!)
