In this interview I talk to Julia all about music and vinyl.
Why did you decide to start a vinyl themed Instagram?
I started my instagram account in 2019. It was closely associated with music. I shared my art on a musical theme. In general, I was going to do this blog as an artist’s blog. But having such a great collection of the records, how can I not share this?! I thought why not. I had no idea about a vinyl community and that someone will be interested to watch such profile, but it turned out quite the opposite. It’s definitely fun and nice to connect with different people from all over the world, who love music as much as me.
How long have you been collecting records and how many do you have in your collection?
I started to collect music when I was about 12. The first was on a cassette, then on CDs. In 2015 I became a happy owner of Crosley and my first two vinyls. Many thanks to my lovely friend, she sent to me this to start from Chicago. I collect vinyl, but unfortunately, slowly. I have about 100 in my collection. Now I try to buy more vinyl and my collection grows.
What’s your favourite vinyl you own and what is your holy grail?
I can say that all my vinyls are favorites. Because I only buy albums that I love. About my holy grail. I don’t have this one yet, but it may change, I’m sure! I know one holy grail, which I would be so happy to be an owner – The Quarrymen, single 1958. But it is absolutely unreal.
Who’s in your top five of favourite bands?
The hardest choice, David, it’s impossible! I listen to a lot of genres. They are rocknroll, blues, rock, jazz, funk, soul, punk and hip hop a lot. In each genre I have my favorite musicians. British music has a special place in my heart. There is no point in listing all the bands, cause it will be a huge list. I dream of going to England someday, a country with such a rich culture and heritage.
If you could have dinner with any musician from any time who would it be and why?
I like this question! I would like to have dinner with two amazing people. It would be on a different days. The first dinner would be with Jim Morrison. He was a very extraordinary person with a great talent and I would be so happy to talk to him and to hear him as a poet. Also he was an attractive man. The second dinner would be with another talanted musician Ian Bavitz, his stage name Aesop Rock. He has very creative ideas. I love his style and respect him. I would love to talk to him and also ask a few questions about his new album, which will be released soon.
Any recommendations on movies,tv shows or music?
This is not really a recommendation, but here are the names of my favorites film directors. They are Jim Jarmusch, Martin Scorsese and Paul Thomas Anderson. They do a great movies.I have some recommendations about music. Four names: The Bonnevilles, James Leg, Left Lane Cruiser and Lonesome Shack with his last album Desert Dreams. Such cool guys and awesome musicians.
