An Interview With rickyroscov

Hello, I´m Ericka. I live in Ecuador, a very small country in Southamerica.

Why did you decide to start a vinyl themed Instagram?

I love music so much. I always say that music is my soulmate like if it was a person and I need to express what I feel about music. That’s why every post I’ve make I consider it like a way to say thank you.

I suffer from anxiety and diseases related to it so music is an escape, it really help me to disconnect and feel better, so for me to post about vinyl and music is a necessity.

How long have you been collecting records and how many you do you have in your collection?

I’ve been collecting since 2017 and it has turn an obsession. Pearl jam was the inspiration, with the singles for the Ten club.

In a travel to Panamá I bought my first turntable, it was very cheap but help me to start.

I have 451 records, right now I don´t have space for more records but I am still buying. The last one I bought was David Bowie Space oddity picture disc.

What’s your favourite vinyl you own and what is your holy grail?

Very hard question. I have a few favourites. My favourite, probably is, Mad Season Above first pressing (I need to make a picture of it, asap). A really nice guy from Perú sold it to me and arrived just in time before the virus forced to close the borders. My second favourite is Mother Love Bone Box set and my third favourite a tie between The Cranberries To the Faithful departed and REM New Adventures in hifi, both first pressing.

My Holy grail is the Brad discography on vinyl, I am trying to buy Shame on vinyl, a little expensive but I love that album, is one of my favourites from the 90s but I have the cassette.

You collect cassettes too, how many do you have in your collection?

Yes, I love cassettes I have 61. I started the collection because I couldn’t find some albums on vinyl and since by medical recommendation I’m walking 45 minutes a day I started to buy more. I really enjoy walking while I am hearing great music.

I like your photos their pretty vibrant and fresh. Where do you come up with your ideas?

I used to have a previous idea but that almost never worked now I pick a record to play and I decide to take a picture without overthink, especially now that I can’t go outside or travel. The city I live in was and still is very affected by the virus.  My husband helps me sometimes like in the picture for Blind Melon’s Soup, that was fun to do.

Who’s in your top five of favourite bands?

I guess you know by now but I am very proud to name them.

Pearl Jam

Caifanes (a band from México)

Alice in chains

I also have a new favourite band The Strokes (new favourite because currently I am obsessed with them because of The New abnormal)

If you could have dinner with any musician from any time who would it be and why?

Definitely Julian Casablancas, he seems a very interesting person and I love his lyrics. I’m not sure if he would like to answer my questions because he’s kind of like me, shy and introverted and probably that’s why I want to pick his brain, also we are contemporaneous and heard the same music when we were young. I remember an old interview of Jules with Nardwuar, Julian pointed that people should pay attention to the music and not to their backgrounds or looks and that make me think that he really love what he does and put art in first place not fame or money. I also read he’s working on an experiment, a folding electric bycicle!, wow that’s an interesting person.

Any recommendations on movies, tv shows or music?

Movies: I don’t know if many peope have watch Juliet, naked is a great movie, especially for music obsessives.

Music: I would like to recommend 3 rock bands in spanish and one album from them. They’re really good and I guess everyone enjoy they’re sound a little like The Cure, 80’s sound.

Band: Soda Stereo    Album: Canción animal

Band: Caifanes         Album: Caifanes 1st album

Band: Fobia               Album: Fobia 1st álbum (b side is awesome)

TV shows: My all time favourite tv show is Sons of anarchy great story and amazing music.
