An Interview With Jeadollente

In this interview I talk to Jeanna all about music, vinyl and the Super Bowl.

Why did you decide to start a vinyl themed Instagram?

It was unintentional how that happened. I started it back in 2011 just so I could post random photos, mostly of my dogs or what I was doing/where I was at. At one point I tried to be a nature and cityscape photographer. Then I stopped and didn’t post anything for five years, and when I came back to it I saw someone I had been following from the beginning would post something from his record collection every once in a while, and I thought that was really cool so I tried it out as well. That led to an April vinyl challenge and I haven’t really stopped since. I like colors and designs, so it’s been fun trying to show what I’m listening to. The nature stuff still comes out every now and then.

You have a good following, how are you finding it all?

I love and appreciate all the connections and friendships I’ve made on here! Even if we don’t all like or listen to the same music, we’ll always find something in common. I use IG to really be myself and do or say what I want, and everyone has been really positive about it (no matter how obnoxious I get).

How long have you been collecting records and how many do you have in your collection?

I bought my first one in 2016, and right now I’m at 212. Up until then I had a pretty big CD collection because I always liked having the physical copy of music I liked. I started collecting vinyl because Young Guns had a vinyl bundle for their newest release, and it was this completely gorgeous black and white marble vinyl that matched the album art, and I had to have it. I don’t quite have the same feeling when I’m holding a CD.

Whats’s your favourite vinyl you own and what is your holy grail?

I don’t know that I have a favorite vinyl, but I’m really glad I have most of My Chemical Romance’s discography on vinyl. No holy grail either. I’ve kind of accepted that I’ll never have Beck’s Mellow Gold or Arch Enemy’s Doomsday Machine in my collection.

Some of your coloured vinyl are beautiful, where do you get most of them and are you going to post the wax crayon rainbow colour challenge this month? With your vinyl I’m sure you’d kill it.

Thanks! I really want to, I might do it soon. A lot of them are online, like from the bands or labels websites, but I also have a few that are secondhand and that I bought from someone on IG. If I go to a show and they’re selling a tour exclusive variant, I might pick that up too. There’s maybe two or three local record stores in the area I’ll sometimes go to, but not for colored vinyl.

Full disclosure after we did this interview Jeanna posted this photo for the challenge on her Insta @jeadollente

You’re a big 49ers fan. How did you take the Super Bowl loss?

Haha! One could say I was extremely disappointed when it happened, probably not my finest moment. I tend to yell and holler during every game, but this was it. The party was at someone else’s house, and when the loss was certain I was yelling at the other team’s fans to “get outta here!” and the homeowner even joined in! At work the next day it was all “I’m sorry your team lost” and mentioned my loud booing. I can laugh about it now at least, it’s just on to the next season.

Who’s in your top five of favourite favourite bands?

My Chemical Romance, Lacuna Coil, Don Broco, Architects, and Journey. I also have Wage War on heavy rotation. My Chem and Lacuna Coil are my all-time favorites. I’ve stuck with them since I was 13 and it would take a lot for me to stop listening to them. Journey always reminds me of home, and my friend and I never pass up the chance to sing along to them. I’ve only been listening to Don Broco for five years, but they’re fun and their music and their live shows inspire me to just be myself.

If you could have dinner with any musician from any time who would it be and why?

I have two. Paul Young, because I’ve always been in love with his smooth voice. Second would be Steve Perry, and specifically I would love to go to a baseball game with him. I’d be starstruck with both.

Any recommendations on movies, tv shows or music?

I recently saw The Invisible Man and just finished binge watching The Good Place! I also really like Stranger Things and This Is Us. But other than that I’m all about those action police dramas (did I say that right?), like Bones, NCIS, and NCIS: New Orleans.
