The Gentlemen

The Story

Mickey Pearson is an American expatriate who became rich by building a highly profitable marijuana empire in London. When word gets out that he’s looking to cash out of the business, it soon triggers an array of plots and schemes including bribery and blackmail from shady characters who want to steal his domain.

The Good

I’ve wanted to see Guy Ritchie make another British gangster movie for ages and now we’ve got one. I love the style of Guy Ritchie movies, the pace, the storytelling, the funny moments and action scenes, he also picks great actors. Mathew McConaughey is in his element in this movie, Charlie Hunnam plays one of the coolest characters perfectly, Colin Farrell is funny and cool, Hugh Grant gives the best performance I’ve ever seen from him, he looks and sounds so different. The movie is a slow burn of great storytelling reaching to the end credits. Everyone is giving a chance to shine from the main stars to the supporting cast, it’s a well told, it’s funny and fun to watch.

The Bad

There’s not a lot I can say here that’s bad. Guy Ritchie is back to doing what he does best and all the cast killed it. Some might say it’s a bit slow, but that’s the point, it’s telling a story, building suspense and keeping you interested until the end of the movie.

The Verdict

Great British crime movie by one of the best directors to ever do it. It has great storytelling, great acting, funny and fun moments. I really enjoyed this movie, it’s one of the best movies I’ve seen in a while.
