It’s time to put on a happy face because here’s my review of Joker.
Forever alone in the crowd, failed comedian Arthur Fleck seeks connection as he walks the streets of Gotham City. Arthur wears two masks the one he paints as his day job as a clown, and the guise he projects in a futile attempt to feel like he’s apart of the world around him. Isolated, bullied and disregarded by society, Fleck begins a slow descent into madness as he transforms into the criminal mastermind known as the Joker.
This movie is a masterpiece. Joaquin Phoenix is incredible in his performance of Arthur Fleck, and his slow descent into madness and becoming the Joker. It’s one of the best character development in a movie I’ve seen in ages. His performance is haunting, cringe worthy at times and hard to watch, but every minute is thrilling.
The backdrop of Gotham City looking dark, bleak and brooding adds to the look and feel of the movie too. Things look bad for the city and the residents too, you get a sense that trouble was about to burst and it does in a big way.
The cast including Robert De Niro are all great, the story is well told with great writing and is brilliantly directed by Todd Philips.
This is my movie of the year. The hype is real, you need to see this movie.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ out of five stars.
